All Aboard for Fairplay House!
Pupils in Year 5 were offered the opportunity to go on a residential week to Fairplay House to escape school and learn lots of new skills!
Our teachers arranged for someone from Fairplay House to give a talk about the experiences on offer at the residential. We all felt really excited and desperate to go. We were given a letter asking us whether or not we would like to go there and sixty children applied to go and all of us were offered a place. Yay!!
As the time drew near to the start date, we had to do some shopping for our trip and we began to feel nervous, excited anxious and eager.
The day arrived… we came in laden with our suitcases (some even had secret stashes of goodies such as: crisps, chocolate, juice, biscuits and sweets).
Shortly after the coach arrived, we got on and headed off into the distance.
On arriving at Fairplay House, we entered the living-room; a man called Jack informed us of the activities and of the whereabouts of our rooms. We put our luggage away and then had lunch.
Later we started our activities: high ropes, giant swing, caving, zip-wire, rock-climbing and archery.
During the week we had trips out to places such as the beach and the woods.
The beach was fun – we collected lots of bits n’ pieces to make up an arty picture for a competition amongst ourselves.
In the woods, we did challenges where we had to run up a steep hill – we broke the Fairplay House record for how fast we could run up the hill – we did it in the record-breaking time of 59.30 seconds.
The meals at Fairplay House were scrumptious. We ate: burgers, pizza, chips, pasta, ice-cream, chocolate cake and much more. Yum Yum!!
At night we had to go to bed at 9.30pm – some of the teachers were really strict so we had to be sensible and quiet. A few children were homesick but everyone enjoyed their week.
The teachers were all very good and joined in with the activities. Some of the teachers actually screamed on the ‘Giant swing’ and practically deafened us!!
It was one of the best experiences we have ever had in our lifetime (so far!).
